Dealing cards and starting the game

Each player gets 5 cards. Flip one card to the Discard pile, remaining cards = the deck. Player to the dealer\'s left starts. Each turn: discard a card/sequence from hand and draw a card (from deck or top of Discard).

    How to discard cards?

You can discard: (1) a single card, (2) a run of 3+ cards in a single suit (e.g., 4-5-6 spades), (3) 2-4 cards of the same value (e.g., two 7s). Joker fills any run/set, but as a single card its value is 30 points.

What is "Yaniv" and when to call it?

When hand total ≤ 7, at the start of your turn before discarding — you can call "Yaniv". All players reveal hands. If the caller has the lowest total = wins the round (0 points). Card values: A=1, J/Q/K=10, numbers=face value, Joker=0.

    Asaf — Yaniv's curse

If you called Yaniv but another player holds a total ≤ yours, they call "Asaf": you get 30 penalty points + your card total, and they get 0. This is the most dramatic moment in the game and the source of "Yaniv fear."

    End of game and scoring

Game continues until a player reaches a cumulative total of 100/200 points (agreed in advance) — and is eliminated. Winner = last one standing. "Round" totals (50, 100) go back to exactly 50/100 — bonus.

    Tactics — 5 winning tips

    1) Keep low cards (A, 2, 3). 2) Draw from Discard only when completing a run/set. 3) Asaf curse — don\'t call Yaniv if opponent\'s expected total is low. 4) Release high cards (K, Q, J) fast. 5) Track discards — to predict opponents\' hands.

Yaniv vs. poker — which is better?

Yaniv = fast, social, ~40% luck. Texas Hold\'em poker = strategic depth, ~70% skill, long-term profit potential. If you love Yaniv and want to level up — Texas Hold\'em is the natural next step. Practice free at AI game.
